Challenging Your Body to Calm Your Mind

Starting a new movement routine can be challenging. With spring in the air, it’s a great time of year to get outside, move more, and try new adventures.

Plus, exercise can support you through any emotional or mental stress you’re going through!

Whether you are interested in yoga or your choice of movement is something else entirely, you may find that the ability to challenge your body actually calms your mind. Many of us know that there is a connection between physical activity and mental health, but have you ever put it into practice? This is exactly what we’re going to explore in this blog post.

The Mind-Body Connection

Exercise is proven to have mental health benefits that can totally change the way we feel about ourselves. Feeling more energetic, confident, strong and vibrant— who doesn’t want that? Plus, there’s nothing quite like the sense of calm and peace in your mind and body after a good sweat, a walk outside, an upbeat yoga class, or any other activity you enjoy doing.

Choosing Inner Peace

Ultimately, it comes down to choosing your own sense of inner peace. Life can feel like a battle – if we let it. But when it comes to finding inner peace, it has to be something that we choose to welcome and actively seek out. Meditation, mindfulness, yoga, and therapy can all help here. But so can the process of challenging your body. Aiming to make your health and your physical strength a priority can drastically transform your mindset.

Finding New Ways to Grow

But what happens if you don’t naturally love to workout? Or you’ve never really clicked with it? Does this mean that you aren’t able to reap the benefits? Not necessarily. It just means that you haven’t found your way yet. Not everyone loves the gym or running. Many people will find joy in yoga if they give it the patience, but it could be that you want to shake things up with HOTWORX or even join a sports team? It’s all about working out what you thrive on (aka social interaction, high-intensity, stretching, etc) and then matching that up with the right style of movement.

Making Your Mind the Priority

Choosing exercise that calms you and helps you feel clearer is a gift to yourself. Our physical health feeds right into our mental health.

Rather than feeling overwhelmed and pressured with life and workouts, looking to push your body to connect with it more can work – as can the idea of looking to calm your mind. It’s just about discovering what works best for you.

What fun challenge will you be taking on this spring? I’d love to hear.
