My Favorite Ways to Stay Hydrated
/It’s been a long, hot summer here in Salt Lake City, Utah! This year we’ve experienced many triple-digit days, lots of wildfire smoke, and even a new record temperature (109°F on July 12, 2026).
Staying hydrated has been a big priority for me. (It is year-round here, honestly, because the air is so dry.)
Here are my favorite ways to maximize hydration.
It’s a no brainer, but the top of my list for staying hydrated is of course drinking plenty of fresh water. Sometimes I like to add trace minerals, Celtic sea salt, and a squeeze of lemon for extra hydration.
My new absolute favorite water is from my Big Berkey gravity-fed water filtration system. I love that it holds over two gallons and has a handy spigot setup, so I can easily fill my water bottles in the morning and have them ready to go for the day.
I also love to eat hydrating foods like grapes, cucumbers, watermelon, and strawberries. I also drink fresh-squeezed juices, kombucha, coconut water, and smoothies.
Other hydration tips for summer and on days when you’re sweating a lot:
Drink water before having coffee (and eat a protein-filled breakfast pre-coffee, while you’re at it!). Limit caffeine intake throughout the day.
Carry a (reusable, not single-use plastic) water bottle with you and refill that baby often.
Pay attention to how you’re feeling. Hydrate proactively rather than waiting to feel thirsty.
Take breaks from being in the heat or sun.
Take a cool shower after vigorous exercise.
What are your favorite ways to stay hydrated? I’d love to hear in the comments below.
And is it feeling like fall yet where you are? I’m definitely looking forward to cooler temperatures and fall colors, coming soon.
Much love!
