Ways to Create a Unique Yoga Studio Environment

Yoga studios are everywhere nowadays.

Are you a yoga teacher thinking about opening a studio? Or perhaps you own one and are looking for ways to upgrade and attract new clients?

Here are some fun ideas for how to make your space unique, inviting and memorable to your students.

Ways to Create a Unique Yoga Studio Environment

Control the Heat

A warm space can create an inviting atmosphere for yoga. If the studio is too cold or drafty, it can be uncomfortable for participants; in addition, having a drafty space could even cause muscles to seize up, creating potential for injuries to occur. If the space is too warm, you run the risk of overheating your students, causing them to feel dizzy, sick, or even faint. Heating controls can be helpful so that you create just the right temperature.

It’s helpful to do a test run of your heating system before having students in class, so that you can fine tune the settings and figure out what works best. Also keep in mind that as the seasons change, you’ll likely update your settings as well.

Offer Energy-Boosting Nutrients

One highly attractive asset to your studio could be a small menu of foods and drinks offered alongside classes. This could be something as simple as a healthy vending machine filled with water, natural juices and nutritional snacks; if you want to go further, you could have a coffee machine, a smoothie blender and an industrial juicer to seal the deal. This addition to your space will draw the attention of students who want a whole experience, rather than an in-out yoga studio which doesn’t welcome them to hang out before or after class.

Customize Your Space

Consider hiring a local artist, crafter, interior designer and/or gardener to check out your space and make it unique to your style and vibe! Painting a wall, purchasing locally-made decor, or designing a custom item for your front lobby is a wonderful way to make your space memorable. Mood lighting, essential oil diffusers, fun artwork in the bathrooms— all of these go a long way in making an impression on students, especially the first time they come in for a class.

Host Special Yogi Events

Successful yoga studios often create a culture of community through unique events. You’ll draw students to your space as you get more clear on the types of special workshops and collaborative events you offer. Here are some ideas:

  • Guided meditation sessions or special workshops with guest teachers

  • Kids yoga classes

  • Theory classes which teach students more about the history and philosophical concepts behind the yoga practice

  • Classes tailored to a specific group such as prenatal, trauma-informed, or chair yoga

Cheers to creating a thriving yoga space for your community!
