Recovering After Tough Workouts or a Muscle Strain

Recovery is essential, especially after a challenging workout.

I’m finding this to be more and more important as the years go by ;)

Recently at the gym I did a strong leg day and found my low back wasn’t the happiest about it. It wasn’t a full-on injury but I just felt a little off and knew I had overdone it a bit.

So, I remembered to get back to basics on my recovery routine.

Here are some of my go-to practices after a difficult workout or if I’m feeling like a muscle is strained.

  • Rest. Ice if necessary. Slow down and listen to my body.

  • Stretch mindfully. Invite gentle movement and go for walks instead of doing heavy workouts for the next 24-48 hours after.

  • Use CBD and arnica gel. This CBD Sports Cream has been a lifesaver lately! I love the menthol and camphor— the minty scent and cooling feel help relieve pain.

  • Use my tens unit for muscle stim. Suuuuuper helpful.

  • Prioritize sleep and hydration. These are always essential but especially when recovering from a hard workout or dealing with an injury.
