Simple Ways to Improve the Recovery Process if You're Injured

Are you recovering from an injury?

Sometimes the process can be arduous and difficult. Here are 4 ways to stay positive throughout the process and speed up your recovery time.

Slow Down & Rest

One of the biggest things that will help you recover is to slow down, breathe, and see what you can take off your plate. Are you able to take some time off work? Can you give yourself moments throughout the day to rest? Are you able to fit in more naps?

If you do work that agitates the part of your body that is recovering, the process will take longer.

Create a Relaxing Bedtime Routine

Sleep is so important as your body heals! I find it helpful to have a peaceful routine to wind down the day. Epsom salt baths, candles, stretching, slow breathing, and meditation can all be helpful.

Meditate

Meditation is an amazing way to speed up your recovery time. Visualize your body functioning normally. Bring in the energy of strength, trust and vitality. Notice pain. Notice tension. Send your breath to those areas. Give yourself time simply to be still, and to allow the mind to settle.

Invite Movement— When You’re Ready

I heard this quote a long time ago and it has always stuck with me: “Move as much as possible. This is the key to vibrant health.” I believe this is true! Even after a significant injury or something like a surgery, we can set a goal to begin movement as soon as it is reasonable considering the precautions from a doctor and considering personal pain levels. Movement encourages faster recovery, increases circulation of chemicals that will help to repair your muscles, tendons, and any areas that need healing.

Nourish Yourself

Healthy, nourishing, balanced meals help your body recover. Choose whole foods and fuel up with plenty of calories so that you’re able to restore your energy. Sometimes when recovering we lack appetite but it’s still important to eat. Your body needs the fuel now more than ever!

Ask for Help When You Need It

Asking for support is important, especially if you are struggling to feel energetic and positive during the recovery process. Obviously you want to find a medical team that you can trust and that supports you along the way—perhaps a doctor, specialist, physical therapist, or chiropractor— and maybe even reliable personal injury attorneys depending on the situation.
