If You're Making a Big Change

Are you experiencing big changes in your life?

The other day I realized it's been three months (!!?!) since I quit the 9-to-5 and started teaching yoga and freelancing full time.

Change is not easy. These are a few things I incorporated into my daily routine to ease the transition. If you're going through a big change in your life, I invite you to try these practices.

1. Write. Find yourself a special notebook for this time in your life. A place where you can jot down all of your ideas, frustrations, worries, to-do lists, brainstorms, and reflections. What's most important to you right now? What's causing the most struggle? Make time to write about these things.

2. Choose a daily mantra, or intention. Give yourself a specific focus, just for today. Maybe today is about acceptance of what is. Or about choosing to breathe more. Or about being kind to yourself. The daily mantra can be something you create as soon as you get out of bed, and if you're feeling practical, you can even bring to mind one specific, important task you'll accomplish today. Let this focus be laser-sharp. Choose only one thing.

3. Release tension from the physical body. Commit to your yoga practice, a daily walk, perhaps some light stretching in the evenings. Invest in a foam roller :) Once a week, schedule yourself a restorative massage, pedicure, Reiki treatment, or at-home bath soak with Epsom salts. If you find yourself making excuses about any of these practices, go back to #1 and do some writing. It's easy to create all sorts of reasons why we don't deserve relief and a little pampering, and writing may help you see what's blocking you from taking incredible care of yourself.

Cheers to your bravery and the big changes you're experiencing! Please know that I support you and if there's any way I can encourage you, I'd love that. (aliveinthefire at gmail dot com is my email if you want to reach out!)

Namaste.
